A woman and a child have died after they reportedly got into difficulty in water in a London park.
The tragedy struck in Elthorne Park, Ealing, on Saturday afternoon after the alarm was raised shortly before 4.30pm.
The police pulled the pair, believed to be a mum and her son, from the water.
Despite the best efforts of the first responders, they succumbed to their injuries at the scene.
Police officers are working to identify their next of kin now.
Their ages have not been publicly announced.
Detective Superintendent Pete Thackray, from the Metropolitan Police’s West Area Command Unit, said: ‘This is a tragic incident in which a woman and her young child have lost their lives. Our thoughts are with their loved ones.
‘I would also like to acknowledge the efforts of the first responders and members of the public who did their very best in an incredibly challenging situation.
‘While an investigation into what took place is under way, all initial indications are that the circumstances are not suspicious.’
The park borders the River Brent and the M4 in west London, with several paths and the Grand Union Canal Walk route zigzagging through the recreational area.
