Motorist threatens man with 3ft bat during rush hour row over ‘bad driving’ thumbnail

A man grabbed a 3ft bat from his car as he argued with a fellow driver during a road rage incident on a busy high street.

The spat, which was caught on camera, threatened to spiral out of control as the man swung the weapon at another man.

In the footage he’s heard shouting: ‘That’s what you’ll f**king get’ before telling him to ‘learn to drive.’

It’s not known what caused the irate motorist to lose his temper on the road in Dagenham, east London.

The angry fracas unfolded in broad daylight as children walked to school and commuters watched from inside their own vehicles on Monday at around 8:30am.

A passing motorist stuck in traffic started filming the incident after witnessing the altercation from his front window.

The witness, who didn’t want to be named, said: ‘The guy was insane. There was shouting, pushing and shoving at first and it got worse when he pulled out the bat.

‘It looked like an axe handle. Fortunately, the head wasn’t on it. I knew he was angry enough to use it. I thought he was going to hit the other man.’

After threatening the other driver with the 3ft axe handle, the motorist who filmed the incident said the man returned to his silver car and carried on his journey as if nothing had happened.

The man who shot the video later reported the incident to the police. He was on his way to work with his girlfriend when the angry confrontation between the two motorists started to unfold.

He said: ‘Everything deescalated as quickly as it escalated, but it was pretty shocking.

‘To behave like that in front of so many people is pretty horrendous. If you’re going to behave like that in public, what are you going to act like in private?’

A spokesman for Metropolitan Police said: ‘Police were called at 08:35hrs on Monday, 7 September to reports of a man chasing another man with a baseball bat in Heathway, Dagenham.

‘Officers made enquiries with the assistance of British Transport Police and were unable to locate any suspect or victim. No injuries were reported.’
