1. Experience Koba’s reimagined Korean barbeque
Twenty years after Fitzrovia’s Koba arguably introduced elevated Korean table barbeque in London, owner Linda Lee has reinvented the restaurant to introduce a sizzling taste of modern Seoul. At Koba 2.0, the barbecue is manned by chefs in the kitchen (a relief after my 2018 incident with pork belly, onion, and a Korean grill in LA. Oops.)
A vast tray arrives with a colourful array of kimchi and a delicate omelette. We dive into starters of raw fish with trout roe, emerging from the bowl like a sculpture on ice, along with delicate dumplings.
Having quibbled whether grilled mackerel in sweet soy sauce would be a hit, curiosity is richly rewarded: it appears on its own grill and is a must-order, along with beef short ribs. To finish, there’s an indescribably miraculous doughnut filled with sweet adzuki bean paste.
Worth a visit? Put it this way: we were fighting over the last spoonful right until the end.
Starters from £10, mains from £16 (set lunch from £12). 11 Rathbone Street, Fitzrovia, W1T 1NA. Book here.
2. Indulge in delicious, generously sized Italian sandwiches

Fresh sandwiches with crunchy bread, tomatoes and cured meats on the beach are the highlight of many Londoners’ trips abroad – but this restaurant shows you don’t need to book a flight to get it. Say hello to affordable and incredibly tasty sandwiches at Dal Fiorentino, now with a new branch in Notting Hill.
Their thing is Schiacciata – Tuscany’s famous crunchy bread. The Brunelleschi with spicy salami, nduja cream, melted gorgonzola and grilled aubergines is both refreshing and spicy.
I’m a big fan of any blue cheese – and the tanginess of the gorgonzola mixed with the spice from the salami and ‘nduja melts perfectly together. And my chef boyfriend approved the Dante, with Parma ham, buffalo mozzarella, tomatoes, and fresh basil.
Skip the meal deal next lunchtime – Dal Fiorentino’s fresh ingredients and generous sandwiches (with new flavours every two months) are more than worth the journey. In fact, they’re so filling you’ll probably find yourself saving half for the next day.
Small sandwiches from £4.50, large sandwiches from £7.50. Notting Hill, Holborn, Hoxton, Brick Lane, Fitzrovia. Just walk in.
3. Try a not-to-miss collab from Kricket and Urban Greens
We’re all done with dull, boring salads. And the new Kricket Salad at Urban Greens is anything but. It’s full of contrast, warm spice against cool yoghurt, brightness against richness, crunch against softness.
With ingredients like Achaari chicken and Camargue red rice with coriander chickpeas, you’ll get flavour in every bite.
Available until the end of April. £13.50 per bowl.

4. Sip on one of these chic culture-led drinks
FlipDog
Best for: inventive Ukrainian cocktails
Have you ever had a cocktail that made you emotional? One that makes you stop in your tracks and truly savour it? Neither had I, until I went to FlipDog, a new cocktail concept from Ukrainian drinks talents Artem Skapenko and Alex Kostenyuk.
‘Morning at the Platform’, is a sharp and layered hot whiskey drink with a mineral edge, and feels like a crisp 7AM commute into St Pancras. Foodwise, they nail their Ranch dressing with homemade crisps (as an American, this is high praise from me).

Cocktails, £11. Old Street. Find out more.
Smokey Kudu
Best for: South African fire
Kudu hardly needs an introduction these days – it’s one of the trendiest and most celebrated destinations for South African food. Smokey Kudu, just upstairs, is no less deserving of your attention. It’s low lit and moody with a late-night vibe that makes a quick stop feel unlikely, especially once the drinks start arriving.
The Kudu Pear with xante pear, punchy King’s Ginger, and zingy apple and lime juice is a knockout, and even better alongside deep-fried prawn crullers. Before you know it, you’re there all evening…

Cockails from £10. Bar snacks from £8. Marylebone. Book here.
Sova
Best for: a truly impressive wine selection
Hungary, Ukraine, Romania. Not the first places that spring to mind when you think of wine, but Sova, the new wine and listening bar from the team behind Zima, might just change that. From reds to orange and dessert wines (plus rustic snacks like pearl barley with leek and goat’s cheese or crispy sea bass) they’ve got you covered.
The Hungarian dessert wine Oremus – rich, with delicate floral notes and hints of citrus – is so delicious it proves that even wine sceptics can be converted.

Wine by the glass from £9.20. Notting Hill. Book here.
