ood Morning Britain viewers have given the thumbs up to new presenter Gordon Smart, who made his debut on the ITV programme on Thursday.
The 42-year-old Scottish host has been hailed a “hunk” and “breath of fresh air” after being drafted in for a two-episode stint while usual hosts Susanna Reid, Ben Shephard, and Kate Garraway take time off over the Christmas period.
The second of his two scheduled appearances is on Friday, but if the feedback online is anything to go by, we could be seeing more of him.
Smart – who hosts the Restless Native podcast with Line of Duty actor Martin Compston – shared his nerves at the start of the show, telling viewers that it felt like “first day of school vibes”.
“It’s been very surreal the past three years sitting in my pants watching this show and here I am watching you,” he continued.
“I feel like I’ve had the right experience to be here sitting beside you,” Smart went on to tell co-host Charlotte Hawkins.
“[I’ve been] working in newspapers a long time in the entertainment beat and then politics in Scotland and then a bit of time in radio for the last five years doing music, then politics recently.
“So, I’ve set myself up for a huge fall, Charlotte… but it’s great to be beside you.”
Viewers flocked to social media to offer their feedback and some were quite forthcoming.
“Rather enjoying Gordon’s style of presenting. Confident, calm, professional – and a bit of a twinkle in the eye. Heck of a lot better than most other male presenters on #GMB (no names mentioned)!” remarked one person on Twitter.
“Morning all [praying hands emoji, red heart emoji] #GMB have filled our post Christmas mornings stockings with this delightful Scottish hunk @gordonsmart Mornings just got easier to wake up,” said another, followed by a winking and kissing emoji.
“Great to have Gordon on. Fresh breath indeed! As a Scot, fine to see him!” a third agreed.
A fourth was desperate for more, writing: “Welcome to GMB! Hope you’re a regular.”
Another wrote: “I like Gordon Smart…nice hunky Scot.”
