Dozens of firefighters were called to a huge fire at a block of flats in London this morning.

The London Fire Brigade said 51 calls were made to the emergency services after Gaydon House in Kensal Town, Maida Vale caught alight just before 10am on Thursday.

The brigade sent six fire engines and around 40 firefighters to the scene in Bourne Terrace.

A spokesperson from the London Fire Brigade said: ‘Six fire engines and around 40 firefighters were called to a fire at a block of flats on Bourne Terrace in Maida Vale.

‘Part of a flat on the 17th floor of a 20-storey block was alight.

‘Around 50 people left the building before the brigade arrived.

‘There were no reports of any injuries. The brigade’s 999 Control Officers took 51 calls to the fire.

‘The brigade was called at 9.55am and the fire was under control by 10.45am. Fire crews from Paddington, North Kensington, Kensington, Euston and West Hampstead fire stations were at the scene.’

The spokesperson added the cause of the fire is under investigation.
