With Mother’s Day coming up it’s the perfect time to show your mum, wife, granny or even auntie how much you care.

If you’re looking for something that feels a little bit fancy, afternoon tea might be right up your street – and London is not short of options.

The capital is the place to go for varied budgets and even more varied menus. Not a fan of scones? How does sushi or a cake stand of mini burgers sound?

From the traditional to the oh-so-alternatives, here are a handful of the best out there with Mother’s Day bookings still available at the time of writing.

The Clermont – Victoria, from £40pp

An elegant and tranquil experience to help Mum relax with a range of teas, sandwiches, scones and sweets to suit every taste.

For an extra-special Mother’s Day gift, add a glass of fizz or a unique afternoon tea cocktail to toast your special day, or for theatre-loving Mums try the Wicked Afternoon Tea.

Revolution – Bank, from £15pp

We’re drooling just looking at this one. Expect a value-for-money break from more traditional afternoon tea, with instead cheeseburger sliders, crispy fried chicken, veggie chilli cheese fries, waffles and more.

It also comes with a glass prosecco or a cocktail of mum’s choice and is the cheapest on the list, with prices starting at just £15 per person.

Salon de Thé at Mariage Frères – Covent Garden, from £59pp

Select from over 1,000 aromatic varieties of tea, including the iconic Marco Polo and brand new Ume Cha 2024, before indulging in a luxury Parisian Afternoon Tea complete with tea-infused scones, sandwiches and perfect patisserie made fresh each day.

Milestone Hotel – Kensington, from £81pp (child free with an adult)

Got a mum who’s obsessed with the royals? Enjoy a traditional afternoon tea experience overlooking Kensington Palace.

The luxury menu includes sandwiches of roasted Hereford beef and watercress with horseradish pesto and chicken and toasted almonds. Kids go free on this one, which makes it even better that there’s also a separate children’s menu.

Inamo – Covent Garden or Soho, £33.95pp

For a unique twist on afternoon tea, book this one with Sushi and Asian Tapas. Indulge in tasty food such as crispy chicken karaage, soft shell crab tempura, dragon roll, bang bang cauliflower and vegan uramaki.

From passion fruit lollipops to decadent chocolate mousse, there’s something to satisfy every sweet tooth for dessert. Plus, sip on Oriental tea and enjoy an hour of free-flowing prosecco. There are also interactive menus, games and a peek into the kitchen with the Chef Cam.

The Coral Room at Bloomsbury Hotel – Great Russell Street, £30pp

Enjoy an afternoon tea in glamorous surroundings that will transport you and your mum to a 1920s country house. Delicious afternoon tea can be taken near a warm fire or overlooking London’s leafy Bloomsbury neighbourhood.

Brigit’s Bakery – Covent Garden, £45pp

Combine cake with seeing the sights with the Mother’s Day Afternoon Tea Bus Tour from Brigit’s bakery.

The 90-minute route will pass by Big Ben, The Houses of Parliament, Westminster Abbey, St James’s Park, Hyde Park, The Royal Albert Hall, Marble Arch, Nelson’s Column, Downing Street, and more – all while you fill your boots with cake.

Bokan– Canary Wharf £50pp

A sky-high afternoon Tea 37 floors up at award-winning bar and restaurant Bokan. Admire the breathtaking views of the capital’s iconic skyline and feast on an assortment of delicious savoury and sweet treats, along with a glass of bubbles to make the celebrations extra special.

Highlight bites include smoked salmon and cream cheese sandwich; a mini burger with a ginger glaze and smoked mayo; mini banana cake and scones with Isigny cream, berries and jam.

Wellington Lounge at The Intercontinental –  Park Lane, £69pp

For the truly fancy experience, treat your mum to a luxurious afternoon tea inspired by the rich cultural and culinary heritage of Cornwall, curated by International Pastry Consultant, Martin Chiffers.

With deliciously indulgent food such as Newlyn Crab Casserole with Smoked Cornish Caviar Crostini and sweet treats including a centrepiece chocolate artwork depicting ‘A fish sale on a Cornish beach’ by British artist Stanhope Alexander Forbes. Mum’s will also get a Raspberry & Chocolate Pavé to takeaway as a treat for later.
