London’s Victoria train station was temporarily evacuated today due to a fire on a train at the platform.

Footage from the scene showed crowds of people being ushered out of the station, while a tannoy repeated: ‘All passengers must leave the station immediately’.

A spokesperson for Southern Railway later said the fire had been contained and confirmed commuters were allowed back in the station.

However, platforms 9 to 12 remain out of use, and there may be disruptions to some departing or arriving rail services.

The spokesperson said: ‘The incident at London Victoria was a small contained fire at one of our platforms, the fire brigade have attended and confirmed the fire is out.

‘The station has reopened and we are working on a plan to get trains moving again. Thank you for your patience at this time.’
