Some train services to Victoria station, one of London’s most important rail terminals, were diverted after a fire alarm prompted an evacuation.
A tweet from Southeastern Railway said: ‘The fire alarm at #LondonVictoria has been activated and the station is being evacuated.
‘Trains are unable to run to/from Victoria. Some services will be diverted to alternative London terminals.’
London Underground services to and from the station were unaffected by the incident.
According to National Rail, disruption at Victoria continued for more than two hours after the station reopened at around 1.35pm.
Some train services were delayed by up to 45 minutes.
A post on the firm’s website said: ‘Services can now run to/from London Victoria again.
‘However, services have been disrupted and may have terminated and restarted elsewhere, for instance East Croydon, or have been diverted to and from London Bridge instead.’
It continued: ‘Please check before you travel this afternoon and allow plenty of extra time.
‘If your planned train is affected then you may need to wait for the next available service or use an alternative route to complete your journey.’
The alarm was set off at one of the shops on the station’s concourse.
