An infant girl was pictured watching as emergency workers battled to save 15-year-old stabbing victim Joseph Marfini in a London street earlier this week.

Joseph was knifed during a gang brawl which broke out in front of a Sainsbury’s in Wandsworth on Thursday afternoon and died in hospital.

The girl, believed to be around two years old, stood just a few feet away from the harrowing scene, near where another boy of the same age was also treated for knife wounds.

She watched for some time before her mother realised what she was looking at and scooped her up, according to the Evening Standard.

A supermarket worker told the newspaper: ‘It was a horrible thing for that little girl to see. The boy injured outside Sainsbury’s was in a terrible way.

‘The paramedics worked so hard on him giving CPR. Loads of people were still shopping. Staff were trying to do whatever they could to help.

Staff were reportedly sent home early after many of them witnessed the incident.

Another witness added: ‘It was totally shocking. It was right outside the store. There was a group of other boys looking on and shoppers inside.’

A 19-year-old man, Imran Boujdellal, was today charged with murdering Joseph.

Two other teenagers have been arrested in connection with the incident, including a 17-year-old male.

The second victim was taken to hospital but his condition was deemed to be non-life threatening.

Police are continuing to investigate the incident and are calling on the public to come forward with potentially useful information.

DCI Vicky Tunstall of the Met’s Specialist Crime Command told the Standard: ‘My deepest condolences are with the family of this young man.

‘I want to reassure them that my team and I are working to give them the answers they deserve.

‘While our investigation is still in its early days, it would appear that an altercation occurred between two groups of males in the Garratt Lane area, outside Sainsbury’s, at around 4.50pm on Thursday evening.

‘It was during this altercation that the victim was stabbed and sadly, later died. This was a busy area, very near to the shopping centre within Wandsworth.

‘There will be people who saw or heard something suspicious that could help us to piece together the final moments for the victim and possibly identify who was responsible. It is these people we urgently need to speak to.’

She added: ‘All calls will be treated with sensitivity and confidentiality.’

Police appealed for anyone with information, video or images that could help the investigation to call 101 quoting reference CAD 5042/29.
