Three shootings have taken place within just a few hours of one another in London.

In a night of bloodshed in the capital, five people were shot between 6pm last night and 2am this morning.

Two men were shot in Brixton, one man was reportedly shot at close range in Croydon, and two more men received gunshot and stab wounds in Hackney, east London.

The Metropolitan Police force was first called to Brixton just before 7pm after reports of gunshots in Akerman Road.

Witnesses claim seventeen shots were fired at two men and a sub-machine gun was used.

Firearms officers surrounded the area and found damage to two parked vehicles but no victims. Police were still at the scene this morning.

Two men arrived a short time later at a hospital in south London with gunshot wounds. Their condition is not yet known and no arrests have been made.

Police were then called at 1.12am this morning to Mandeville Street, in Hackney, following reports of men fighting, allegedly at a ‘silent’ unlicensed music event.

Officers were then informed at 1.23am that two men – aged 30 and 31 – had been taken to a hospital in east London with gunshot and stab wounds.

This has been linked to the earlier reports in Hackney. Both men remain in hospital but are not thought to have life-threatening injuries.

Two men, aged 30 and 31, have been arrested in connection with the reports and remain in police custody.

Finally, police were called at 1.40am to reports of a gunshot in London Road, Croydon.

A man is said to have been shot at close range just yards from West Croydon station. Armed officers and the London Ambulance Service attended the scene.

They found a man, believed to be in his twenties, with a gunshot wound. He has been taken to hospital and his injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

A large part of London Road at the junction with Oakfield Road remains cordoned off while a full forensic investigation takes place. No arrests have been made.

Another road was also cordoned off in Harlesden, west London, after a stabbing this morning.
