Tents, sleeping bags, camping chairs and Union Jack flags – this is just some of the mess abandoned around Buckingham Palace after the coronation.
Thousands of people filled the Mall yesterday to catch a glimpse of King Charles and Queen Camilla.
As tradition dictates, the Royal Family stepped out on to the palace balcony to greet the crowds and watch the Red Arrows display.
But as the spectacle ended – and the grounds emptied – the area was left looking more like an abandoned music festival site.

As videos of the area were shared on Twitter overnight, many compared the state of the Mall to ‘a rainy weekend in Glastonbury’.
But cleaning staff got to work as soon as the proceedings were finished to ensure the capital returns to normality during the Bank Holiday weekend.
We’re predicting there will be lot of street parties…
Crews this morning can also be seen collecting all the abandoned camping gear.
The barriers which had held the crowds back at a respectful distance were still decorated with British flags and cutouts of the new monarch.

Plastic flags, bottles, food wrappers make up most of the litter discarded by all the royalists who had trekked to central London for the ‘once-in-a-lifetime’ event.
Many had also arrived days before the procession, sleeping outside the palace, to secure a good spot to see the new King and Queen in the Gold State Coach.
Footage shows several bin lorries collecting the full bin bags from the volunteers at the scene.
