Outside Buckingham Palace, some of the most loyal monarchists are camping ahead of the coronation.

In the weeks and months since King Charles took to the throne, fans of the Royal Family have been planning their trip to London for the ‘once-in-a-lifetime’ event.

There are people from all walks of life and corners of the world hoping to catch a glimpse of the monarch on his way to Westminster Abbey on Saturday.

Equipped with tents, deckchairs and plenty of champagne, they picked positions along the Mall to ensure a good view of the procession.

Donna Werner is no stranger to royal celebrations – for more than three decades she has travelled to Britain to join in the public party at weddings and jubilees.

After flying all the way from Connecticut, she is ecstatic to be in the capital for her first coronation.

‘And we’re off. This is such a once-in-a-lifetime experience,’ the 71-year-old said after setting off from her hotel towards the Palace, where she plans to secure a front-row seat to watch events around Saturday’s ceremony.

‘Nobody does it like the British – the pomp and the circumstance. We don’t have anything like this in the States.’

Donna is wearing her celebratory handmade royal hat, which features cutouts of the King, a replica of the throne and crown.

‘I’m just happy to be here and be part of history. I mean, this hasn’t happened in 70 years.’

Her first royal event was the wedding of Prince Andrew to Sarah Ferguson in 1986, and she has been hooked ever since.

Next to her tent, Donna has hung an American flag and a sign reading ‘US loves King Charles’.

With hundreds of thousands of people expected to travel to London for the event, it is understandable why so many are willing to sleep outside to secure their spots.

There are also those who have also gone the extra mile by wearing specially-made royal outfits for the coronation.

Like Donna, many have decorated their tents with Union Jacks and life-size cutouts of Queen Elizabeth II and Charles.

Here is our handy guide of the best spots to watch the coronation procession.
