Travel on the London Underground has ground to a halt after a smorgasbord of issues on the network this afternoon.
Commuters hoping for a smooth and painless journey home were sorely disappointed after a variety of disruptions on Tube and Overground lines.
Over half of the Underground lines were seeing delays, including on the Elizabeth line.
Some of the worst hit routes were the Circle, Metropolitan and Hammersmith & City lines.
Trains ground to a halt after an earlier fire alert at Edgware Road station.
TfL said: ‘Severe delays due to an earlier fire alert at Edgware Road. Tickets are being accepted on London Buses.’
While all the earlier disruptions have since cleared, the Victoria line continues to have severe delays into the evening.
TfL said: ‘Severe delays due to an earlier points failure at King’s Cross St. Pancras. London Underground tickets will be accepted on London Buses, Weaver Line, Suffragette Line, Great Northern, Thameslink, Greater Anglia, South Western Railway and Southeastern.’
The Elizabeth line had minor delays between Heathrow Terminal T5 and T4 and Abbey Wood in both directions, and between Abbey Wood and Reading.
This was because of a trespasser on the tracks in the Southall area, National Rail said.
The Elizabeth line, Great Western Railway and Elizabeth line services between Paddington and Heathrow resumed to normal at around 6pm.
