Mr. Blobby has officially started his wrestling career with a suitably chaotic appearance in a 90s Rumble.

The beloved/feared children’s TV character was flying solo without Noel Edmond for backup as he made an unexpected debut for Riot Cabaret at the London-based wrestling promotion’s recent Vultures Against The Machine event.

The company’s show at the Clapham Grand featured a 1990s-themed match, which followed similar rules to the WWE’s Royal Rumble, seeing wrestlers enter at two-minute intervals and try to throw each other out in a bid to be the last man or woman standing.

Fans were already having a great time with Riot Cabaret stars battling it out in costumes paying tribute to the likes of the Backstreet Boys, the Spice Girls, the Fresh Prince of Bel Air, Attitude Era wrestling legend ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin and even Pokemon villains Team Rocket.

However, there was a huge roar from the crowd when Blobby’s music hit and he bumbled his way to the ring as the final entrant in the match for his first official match, although sadly he wasn’t able to repeat Cody Rhodes’ heroics from WWE’s Rumble over the weekend.

He was eliminated by Team Rocket – portrayed by UK wrestlers Charles Crowley and Alexxis Falcon) – but recovered enough to hit a mindblowing dive from the ring to the venue floor, taking out anyone in his path.

We’d expect nothing less.

The ridiculously wonderful moment has left the wrestling world overjoyed, and London-born high flyer Will Ospreay, who is signed to New Japan Pro Wrestling, was clearly impressed.

He tweeted: ‘Bruv. Mr Blobby was at a Indy show in the U.K. for @RiotCabaret. I’ve never felt more sad that I wasn’t there.’

And Brendan White, one half of the Riot Cabaret Tag Team Champions, was able to recreate a childhood photo after growing up a Blobby fanatic and even owning the suit – which he didn’t have to pay £62,000 on eBay for!

Cheekily referencing WWE’s tag line, he quipped: ‘Blobby. Then. Now. Forever. So Glad I found that photo. @RiotCabaret made my life last night’.

Riot Cabaret executive producer Sean Thorne said: ‘When Mr. Blobby arrived in the Clapham Grand, never in my wildest dreams did I think that I would see a flying Blobby by the end of the night. Everyone loved it, it was a great moment.’

Riot Cabaret owner and executive producer James Lawrence added: ‘We’ve already had some incredible nights at The Clapham Grand with Riot Cabaret, but this was the best yet.

‘You never know what’s going to happen at one of our shows, and Blobby gave everyone in attendance a moment they’ll never forget.’

Riot Cabaret’s next show Fights and Delights takes place at London’s Clapham Grand on 18 April 2023. Tickets are available now! To learn more about Riot Cabaret, please visit riotcabaret.com or @RiotCabaret on Twitter, Facebook, TikTok and Instagram.
