Detectives have launched a manhunt after a stabbing in a leafy part of north west London.

A man is fighting for his life after he was repeatedly stabbed in West Hampstead.

The victim, in his 20s, was attacked at 4.30pm on Thursday.

Paramedics and police were scrambled to the scene in Alvanley Gardens, near Hampstead Cricket Club.

The man was treated for serious neck and leg wounds and is now in hospital after medics including from the London air ambulance stabilised him at the scene.

A cordon is still in place on the leafy residential street while officers carry out door to door inquiries and collect CCTV and doorbell footage from around the scene.

Meanwhile forensics officers are trawling for clues.

A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said: ‘At around 16:30 on Thursday, 29 January, officers responded to reports of a stabbing on Alvanley Gardens.

‘The victim, a man in his 20s, suffered injuries to his neck and leg and was taken to hospital with life-threatening wounds.

‘No arrests have been made yet. A crime scene remains in place.’
