Two young men have been shot at in broad daylight on a residential road in east London, leaving one of them fighting for his life in hospital.

Police were called at around 2.15pm this afternoon to Wilmington Gardens, Barking, following reports of shots being fired.

An air ambulance and specialist firearm officers attended the scene. Two men, both in their 20s, were found injured.

One of the men had gunshot wounds and was rushed to hospital. He remains there in a critical condition, said Met Police.

The other man has also been taken to hospital but his condition is not thought to be life-threatening and he did not sustain gunshot injuries.

Police have not yet made any arrests.

Video footage taken by a resident and uploaded to social media shows a smashed up car, which appears to have crashed into the car in front and a wall in front of a property.

As people rush over to assist, the man recording the video says: ‘Look he’s been shot through the window.

‘Can’t believe it I’m in shock. I won’t record the driver he’s been shot. This is in Barking guys, this is real. It just happened now.’

Pictures taken at the scene show another vehicle which appears to have smashed through a residential wall in front of a house.

Officers remain at the address carrying out enquiries.

The force said in a statement: ‘At this very early stage there have been no arrests.

‘An extensive crime scene is in place as officers work to fully establish what happened’.

Police are urging anyone who saw the incident, or have images or video that could assist police, to call 101 ref CAD 3913/4 June.

Alternatively, members of the public can remain anonymous by contacting the independent charity Crimestoppers.
