A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a woman was seriously injured when she was hit by a car in west London.

The victim, in her 20s, was found after police were called to the junction of Healum Avenue with Merrick Road in Southall shortly after midnight on Thursday.

The vehicle involved had left the scene and the woman was taken to hospital, where she remains in a critical condition.

On Thursday, Scotland Yard issued an appeal for help confirming the woman’s identity and police now believe they know who the victim is, although work to inform next of kin continues.

A 31-year-old man who was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder on Friday remains in custody.

Detective Superintendent Rebecca Reeves said: ‘Though an arrest has been made, we still need to hear from anyone who might have seen events leading up to and at the time of the collision.

‘The woman was dressed in light-coloured bottoms, light-coloured top and wearing sandals.

‘If you saw her around the area please contact us, especially if you have dash or doorbell camera footage – it could prove vital for us.’
