A 22-year-old man who was shot dead by a gunman believed to be on a moped has been named.

Imani Allaway-Muir was gunned down next to a children’s playground close to Pentonville Prison in north London on Saturday.

Police and paramedics found the victim with gunshot injuries on the Westbourne Estate at around 3.20pm, but despite their best efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

A witness said he saw the ‘shocking’ incident from his window, adding: ‘I heard around seven shots, ran to window, and a guy on a bike or moped rode off.

‘He was looking back. When I looked to the park, I could see a guy staggering then fall.’

He added: ‘There’s always crime around here, the shooting is shocking, but not much of a surprise.’

Friends and family gathered together a car park near the scene yesterday afternoon to pay their respects.

A large blue heart-shaped balloon tied to a railing read ‘RIP Imani’, and several people laid bouquets of flowers beside the tribute.

The grieving community of about 15 confirmed Imani was the man who was shot dead in broad daylight in Roman Way.

None of the family or friends wanted to be named or speak at length without Imani’s mother’s consent.

However, a woman said: ‘He was a great kid and that’s all I can say right now.’

A young man, who said he was Imani’s cousin, said: ‘I don’t know what happened. All we know is he’s gone.’

Police say there have been no arrests but enquiries are ongoing. A post mortem is due to take place later this week.

Detective Chief Inspector Neil John said: ‘This was a shocking incident that happened in broad daylight and we believe many people in and around Roman Way would have heard a number of gunshots.

‘I would urge anyone that has any information, or video footage, of the area at the time of the incident to contact police.’

He added: ‘The family of a young man have been left devastated by his death and my team of detectives is working relentlessly to identify and arrest those involved.’
