A serious crash on the M25 in Surrey early this morning has led to tailbacks stretching six miles and 70-minute delays for commuters.

The major route was closed anti-clockwise between junction eight at Reigate and junction six at Godstone for almost five hours this morning.

Currently, just one lane out of four is open between junctions eight and seven, leading to chaos for people seeking to reach Gatwick Airport just before the half-term school holidays.

Adding to the travel issues, there is disruption to trains coming to and from London’s Marylebone station following issues that stretch back to yesterday evening.

3 lanes (of 4) remain closed on the #M25 anti-clockwise in #Surrey between J8 (#Reigate) and J7 (#M23) following a serious collision.

Police investigation works continue at scene.
