Keanu Reeves is no stranger to headlines and rumours involving his name but even the film star himself was shocked at the latest news concerning his moniker.

The actor, 58, recently landed in London ahead of the Leicester Square John Wick: Chapter 4 premiere and joined fellow castmates as they strutted down the black carpet.

Appearing for the fourth time as the titular character, the much-loved Hollywood A-lister was greeted by adoring fans and a torrential downpour of rain on the star-studded evening.

However he hit the news in previous days for reasons that didn’t concern the action packed flick set to break box offices.

Speaking exclusively to Metro.co.uk at the glitzy event, Keanu revealed what the weirdest headline he had ever seen about himself was.

When questioned over whether he had caught wind of a German bacteria that had stolen his famous name, the Point Break actor responded: ‘Isn’t that crazy, it’s so surreal!

‘That could be in the top five [weirdest pieces of news he’s heard about himself]. Let’s go with that one for today’.

His reaction came after scientists in Germany christened a highly effective bacteria that kills fungi after Keanu because: ‘he, too, is extremely deadly in his roles’, according to lead author Sebastian Götze.

Keanumycins is a newly-discovered type of lipopeptide –used as an antibiotic and can have strong anti-fungal properties.

The famous face was joined on the carpet by co-stars Rina Sawayama, Ian McShane, Natalia Tena and Scott Adkins.

He shared why he was so drawn to playing John and what it was about the character’s essence that kept him interested enough to sign on again and again.

‘I like his humour,’ Keanu explained. ‘I like his will, I like his grief and it’s really fun to play him in these films, these films are fun’.

The fourth instalment of the franchise boasts the longest running time yet at two hours 49 minutes and will see the legendary hit man take his fight against the High Table to new global heights as cast and crew filmed in five different cities.

John Wick 4 is due to be released on March 24 2023.
