Gorillaz drummer Femi Koleoso has paid tribute to Daniel Anjorin, the young boy who died in a sword attack in Hainault and who was in the musician’s youth group.

The 14-year-old was walking to school when he was fatally stabbed earlier this week in a shocking incident that saw four other people attacked, each of who suffered significant injuries.

Marcus Aurelio Arduini Monzo, 36, has now appeared at Westminster Magistrates’ Court after being charged with the murder of Anjorin.

Koleoso penned an emotional tribute to the teen, who attended Jubilee Youth, a group led by the musician for young people that is part of Jubilee Church London.

Posting a photo of a smiling Daniel, Koleoso said he will be ‘deeply missed.’

‘Words don’t even begin to describe the pain we have all felt over the last few days,’ he wrote in the caption on Instagram.

‘Daniel was one of the children in the youth group I lead, Jubilee Youth, part of Jubilee Church London. There’s no way to articulate the pain we are all feeling losing one of our own. Daniel is a boy we all love and will deeply miss.

‘Our prayers and support are with the family at this time. In times like this, we lean on God and our family and be there for each other.

‘The official GoFundMe created by a family friend is in my bio and any contribution will be deeply appreciated by the family. Love always, God Bless. Femi.’

A GoFundMe page set up to support his family has raised more than £80,000 since it began.

A message on the page describes Daniel as ‘a very loved boy in the local community’ who was also ‘always full of happiness and joy and very much loved by everybody he came across.’

It continues: ‘On the 30th April, 2024, as he was going to school he was ruthlessly attacked and unfortunately passed from the injuries he sustained. He was only in Year 9 and was a loved student at Bancrofts in Woodford. He meant so much to a lot of people and will be dearly missed.

‘I would like to raise money for his family on behalf of his family as his brother is one of my close friends to help them with the costs of everything so please donate whatever you can donate. Would be very much appreciated!’

The boy’s family told Sky News he was ‘a wonderful child’ who was ‘well-loved’ and ‘hard-working’, adding that his death ‘leaves a gaping wound in the family’.

‘No family should have to go through what we are experiencing today,’ they told the broadcaster.

‘Any family will understand it’s an absolute tragedy.’

Staff and pupils at Bancroft’s, an independent school, said they have been left in ‘profound shock and sorrow’ at Daniel’s death.
