Fire breaks out in London care home full of elderly residents thumbnail

Elderly residents were evacuated from a care home after a blaze in south London.

Firefighters were called to a hairdressing salon inside the home on Woolwich Road in Bexleyheath at around 11.30am today.

Around 60 firefighters were called to the scene, and three people were led to safety wearing breathing apparatus, it has been reported.

Around 30 people were evacuated before fire crews arrived.

Road closures are in place and people are being asked to avoid the area.

Crews from Sidcup, Eltham, Bexley, East Greenwich and surrounding fire stations are at the scene.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.

A London Fire Brigade spokesperson said: ‘Eight fire engines and around 60 firefighters are tackling a fire at a property on Woolwich Road in Bexleyheath.’
