A man who drunkenly tried to throw a woman onto Tube tracks while a train pulled in is facing years in jail.

Arthur Hawrylewicz, 42, held Maria Osifeso up in a bear hug before swinging her around at King’s Cross station on August 29 last year.

Ms Osifeso was saved by a friend who intervened on the platform of the Hammersmith and City line.

The attack happened while Ms Osifeso was on her way to Notting Hill Carnival with friends last summer.

Hawrylewicz, from Cardiff, admitted attempted murder on the first day of his trial at Inner London Crown Court.

Prosecutor Sukwinder Dhadda said: ‘The defendant went up to her and said something.

‘She wasn’t able to understand what he was saying no doubt because of the language barrier.

‘She said she thought he was intoxicated and she told him she wasn’t interested.’

Ms Osifeso instead continued talking to her friends, while the defendant stared at her.

‘Her friend alerted her to a train coming,’ the prosecutor added. ‘She started walking towards the end of the platform.

‘At that stage she felt the defendant’s arms wrapped around her waist in what she said was a bear hug style grip.

‘He lifted her off the ground and swung her around. That is when her male friend intervened and was able to release his grip from her.

‘This lady has suffered considerably from this incident that took place last year.’

Hawrylewicz repeatedly banged his head against the side of the train before he was taken away.

Alexia Nicol, defending, said Hawrylewicz had a ‘limited recollection’ of the incident.

Judge Benedict Kelleher told him: ‘This is an extremely serious offence.

‘You can expect a lengthy custodial sentence.’

Judge Kelleher remanded him in custody ahead of sentencing on April 24.
