Chemical attack suspect’s melted face pictured as he bought water at Tesco

A new CCTV image of the suspect in the Clapham chemical attack has been released by police, showing him visiting Tesco a little over an hour after the incident.

Abdul Shokoor Ezedi is seen in the footage at the supermarket on Caledonian Road in north London, where he is believed to have bought a bottle of water at 8.48pm yesterday.

Emergency services had been called to the incident on Lessar Avenue, opposite Clapham Common in south London, at around 7.25pm.

Ezedi appears to have sustained injuries on the right side of his face, which police say will make him ‘distinctive’.

Anyone who sees the suspect is urged not to approach him and to call 999 immediately.

Superintendent Gabriel Cameron said: ‘We are now releasing an image of the last known sighting of Abdul Shokoor Ezedi, which was on Caledonian Road, N1 at 8.48pm on Thursday, 31 January.

‘The image is taken from the Tesco store, where Ezedi is believed to have purchased a bottle of water. He left the shop and turned right.

‘The image shows Ezedi with what appears to be significant injuries to the right side of his face. This makes him distinctive.’

Ezedi is believed to have been behind the alkaline attack yesterday evening that left 12 injured, including a 31-year-old mother – thought to be known to the suspect – and her two young daughters, aged three and eight.

One of those children was seen being dragged out of their car and thrown repeatedly to the ground.

Four witnesses who ran to help and five police officers also suffered injuries.

Police described the mother and younger girl’s injuries as potentially ‘life-changing’.

The Met revealed earlier today the man attempted to drive off in a car but collided with a stationary vehicle.

He then ran away from the scene on foot, in the direction of Clapham Common.

A statement said: ‘Officers from across the Met are working with partner agencies and forces to locate and arrest the man.

‘While this appears a targeted attack, he is a dangerous individual and we urgently need to find him.’

According to the Mirror, Ezedi was previously convicted of a sexual offence at Newcastle Crown Court in 2018.

He was reportedly given a suspended sentence for ‘sexual assault/exposure’ with an unpaid work order, which was completed in 2020.
