A man jumped into an elderly woman’s BMW and drove off with her pug still in the back.

Doorbell footage shows the thief getting out of a VW Golf and slowly walking over to the woman’s driveway in Bexleyheath, south London, on Wednesday morning.

He then leaps into action when he realises the door of the £35,000 car is ajar and reverses out of the driveway.

The woman and her son then dash out of their home in a bid to stop the thug escaping.

But when the pair try to stop the culprit, the woman in her 70s is hit by the driver and she ended up in hospital.

As the thief drives off, the Golf is driven off at the same time by another man.

The footage was shared to a Bexleyheath Facebook page by the woman’s daugter-in-law Punpilas Prakenree.

Daisy the pug has been found but the thief is still at large.

Punpilas posted: ‘If you know this guy, please let us know. Car stolen Grey BMW X1 LS69 LPL from the drive and with the pug was in the car.

‘Two white males in a dark blue VW Golf drove past and jumped into the car with the ignition on’ before driving off to Brampton Road towards Crook Log.

‘He knocked my mother in law and my husband off when they tried to stop the car. I cut footages out when my mother in law was knocked over. It is hard to watch.’

Members of the Facebook group have expressed their fury about the incident.

Raelynn Bates wrote: ‘This is just awful – I’m so sorry this happened to your family.’

While Reece Whiting commented: ‘Disgusting, I hope your mum/mother in law is ok bless her.’

Meanwhile Nicky Bishop added: ‘Oh my god that’s awful. That’s absolutely heartbreaking to see. I hope you are all ok.’

Petchey Tasha also said: ‘There are no words I just hope the lady is ok.’

A Scotland Yard spokesperson said: ‘An investigation is ongoing following this shocking incident.

‘A dog that was in the car when it was stolen was thankfully found safe and well by a member of the public a short time later in Wickham Street, Welling.

‘Anyone who can help police identify the man should call 101 ref CAD 1418/24 Jan.’
