Banksy has confirmed that he is behind a new piece of work that has appeared in London.

The piece, located on Kew Green in Kew, West London, shows a mountain goat precariously balancing on a pillar as rocks falls below it.

But just two hours after Banksy unveiled the piece on his official Instagram page, an employee has been spotted and appears to move the CCTV camera back to its original position after it was positioned facing the falling rocks.

The artwork has left Banksy’s fellow followers speculating about what the meaning is behind it.

Rob Bartlett commented on the Instagram post: ‘The goat represents the human race on the precipice, “of the edge of extinction”, the jump is not important better to take a few steps backwards.’

Meanwhile Craig Strivens wrote: ‘The CCTV camera surly represents us watching the world crumble around us.’

And Chris Barcroft offered his insight and commented: ‘The camera is looking at the falling rocks, rather than what’s causing them to fall.

Goats are adapted to climbing on narrow ledges, so it isn’t in danger, but the camera’s view doesn’t give the full picture.

‘So I’d guess that it’s referencing the need to understand that news needs context before forming an opinion.’

It is the second new piece by the mysterious artist in recent months in the capital after a mural appeared on a residential building in Finsbury, north London.

The piece in north London is a huge green splatter behind a leafless tree, which makes it look like foliage.

Then underneath this there is a portrait of a girl holding what seems to be a pressure sprayer while she looks up.

But within days this mural was vandalised with white paint which meant a security fence was built around it by the council.

Another one of his pieces in Peckham was stolen less than an hour after he confirmed as genuine.

This piece, painted on a road sign, was cut down using bolt cutters and a man was arrested in connection with the theft not long after.
