At least two injured after armed police attend stabbing at London hospital thumbnail

A man has been arrested after two people were stabbed in a brutal pickaxe attack at Central Middlesex Hospital in London.

Officers are currently on the scene and a large police presence has been reported at the hospital in Acton Lane, northwest London.

Police said two people were found with stab injuries, and that one was fighting for their life.

The other victim is said to have suffered ‘none-life threatening’ injuries.

Armed officers rushed to the scene before detaining the man at around 1.18pm today.

The suspect is also said to have sustained life-threatening injuries, which he is believed to have inflicted himself, police said.

He is also in hospital.

Police said they do not believe the incident is terror-related and they are not looking for anyone else relating to the attack.

Journalist Amie Ferris-Rotman tweeted: ‘I am at Middlesex Central hospital in the dialysis unit and we’re sheltering in safe rooms.

We’re aware of an incident at Central Middlesex Hospital in #Brent. Armed officers are among those responding.

A man has been arrested.

‘Armed policemen are on the scene, being described as a ‘major incident’.’

Mark Thewlis said: ‘My partner is in lockdown situation.’

A Met Police spokesperson said: ‘Officers will remain in the hospital as further searches are conducted but at this time they are satisfied that no one else is sought.

‘Police are working to establish the circumstances.

At this time the incident is not being treated as terror-related.

‘The hospital was temporarily locked down but has now re-opened and will be operating services as normal.

‘There is a heightened police presence at the hospital while we investigate.’
