Airbnb announces £100 bonus if Londoners rent out spare rooms for the Coronation thumbnail

If you’re a homeowner in London with a spare room over the King’s Coronation weekend, then it might be worth listing it on Airbnb.

To help accommodate the huge influx of tourists expected to descend on the capital, the site has launched a bonus incentive to encourage eligible Londoners to host guests.

As well as the usual profits you can make from renting out a room, Airbnb has said it’ll give 100 quid to those who sign up to host on Saturday, 6th May – but there are a couple of T&Cs to note.

Firstly, the bonus will take the form of a travel coupon, giving you £100 off your next holiday via the site. It can’t be exchanged for cash.

Secondly, the scheme is also only available for the first 40 new hosts to sign up for the King’s Coronation, so you’ll need to step to it if you’re interested.

Last year, Airbnb hosts in London collectively earned over £7.1 million during the Platinum Jubilee celebrations, according to the site, with the typical host earning just over £500 between the 2nd and 5th June 2022.

How do I take part in the bonus scheme?

To be eligible, you must be one of the first 40 new hosts living in London registering their spare spaces to welcome guests in May

You must also have a ‘qualifying stay’ – that means having a new listing published on Airbnb, a minimum booking value of £50 and have your place located within the following postcode areas:

E, EC, N, NW, SE, SW, W and WC and BR, CM, CR, DA, EN, HA, IG, SL, TN, KT, RM, SM, TW, UB, and WD

Then, you need to click on the link for the creation of a new listing in the dedicated landing page: www.airbnb.com/e/2023coronation

Once everything is confirmed, you will recieve your £100 coupon within 20 days from the end of May 2023, to the email address associated with the Airbnb account of the qualifying hosts.

‘As celebrations sweep across the UK and families visit loved ones over the additional bank holiday, Airbnb offers a unique opportunity for locals to benefit by opening their homes,’ said Amanda Cupples, general manager for Northern Europe at Airbnb.

‘Home sharing helps cities use existing space to scale up their capacity, welcome visitors during peak demand. It empowers locals to provide sustainable and affordable accommodation, benefitting the local economy.’

For those interested in sharing their home with guests during the King’s Coronation, Airbnb will let you list your home with Airbnb Setup.

This means you can choose to welcome an experienced guest who has at least three stays and a good track record on Airbnb – to make sure you have a good first time experience.
