How will players cope in the heatwave?

Mercifully, temperatures have cooled down from last week’s sweltering 36C heatwave. But preparations are still in place to keep players cool.

Chair of All England Club Sally Bolton said: “Last week at qualifying, the weather was pretty extreme. We have a range of measures [for if a heatwave strikes].

“We have a heat rule for the players, we have additional measures for ballboys and ballgirls. Shorter shifts, caps with neck shields, ice towels. For spectators, we have invested in more shade and shelter to certain parts of the grounds. We have undertaken a range of things.”
