London is getting a brand-new skyscraper taller than The Shard, complete with a panoramic viewing gallery, public gardens, and a bar.
Under newly released plans, the new skyscraper will be the tallest in the UK and will replace St Helen’s Tower, located between the Cheesegrater and the Gherkin in the City of London.
Originally named 1 Undershaft, the tower has now been given a brand-new name: One London.
Aroland Holdings, the company behind the £1billion project, received full planning permission from the City of London Corporation in late 2025, and has now revealed all the details.
Under the plans, the 1,015.75-foot tower, designed by Eric Parry Architects, will match the height of The Shard and will comprise a 74-storey building with terraces.
It will feature Europe’s highest publicly accessible viewing gallery at the top of the building, along with children’s educational spaces on levels 72 and 73, operated in partnership with the London Museum.
The tower will also include office spaces, the highest bar in London on level 71, as well as a free-to-access elevated public garden on the 11th floor, offering unique views of the London skyline.
Plans indicate that the building will also add 42,700 square feet of public space on the ground floor with 350 outdoor seats.
When will One London be built?
Construction on the £1billion tower is expected to begin in 2028, with completion scheduled for 2033.
The tower’s opening date has not yet been confirmed.
In a statement on his website, architect Eric Parry said of the project: ‘One London stands as an icon at the centre of a great city with a confident future in its global role and outreach.
‘London has evolved around the ‘Square Mile’, essentially the Roman city, over the last two thousand years, adding with each historical twist and turn layers of building and conversation of every period since.
He added: ‘We stand at a historic moment of physical metamorphosis as the City rises in a uniquely close and tall form, at the centre of which is One London.’
The news comes as London’s famous BT Tower is set to undergo a major transformation into a hotel following its £275,000,000 sale to hotel operator MCR last year.
