A manhunt has been launched after a 21-year-old man died and another one was injured in a stabbing at a popular London beauty spot.
The young man was stabbed to death at Primrose Hill yesterday as people had gathered to enjoy the hottest day of the year so far.
The emergency services were alerted to reports of a fight at the north London viewpoint at about 6.40pm.
They found the 21-year-old man with stab wounds.
Despite their best efforts, he succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
Another man, believed to be in his 20s, was then spotted by police officers on Regent’s Park Road.
He had also suffered stab wounds, and he was rushed to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, the Met Police said.
Footage circulating on social media shows two men coming head-to-head on a path near the viewing platform. One of them has blood on his hoodie while people can be heard screaming in the background.
Another clip, taken in the aftermath of the stabbing, shows crowds milling around while paramedics and police officers treat one of the men lying on the ground.
An eyewitness said the park was packed with people enjoying the weather and the school Easter holidays when a mass fight suddenly broke out.
The initial fight involved a group of teenagers aged 18 or 19 who were throwing punches and screaming, they said.
The parkgoer told the Daily Mail: ‘Then a group of three people ran off past us and one of them said to the other “you’ve been sheft [stabbed] mate” and you could just see this massive red patch on his shirt.
‘After that a massive group of people began crowding around someone on the floor where the fight had been and you could see from people’s reactions it was not good. Lots of people had their head in their hands and just looked very distressed.’
Superintendent Matt Cox said: ‘This is an utterly tragic incident and our thoughts remain with the man’s family and loved ones.
‘I would like to reassure the local community that the investigation is unfolding at pace and an increased police presence will remain in the area while we carry out enquiries.
‘I would appeal for anyone who was in the area at the time and has any information that could help my officers to come forward.’
No arrests have been made at this stage, and a crime scene cordon remains in place near the viewpoint.
