A fire has broken out in a building near a railway line, disrupting Overground services and trains at London Euston station.
Services on the West Coast Main Line, the UK’s busiest rail route, have been disrupted ahead of the weekend after a fire near the tracks.
The London Fire Brigade said it was called to the scene in Regent’s Park Road in Chalk Farm, north west London, after a single-story commercial building caught fire.
Ten fire engines and around 70 firefighters battled the blaze, which broke out around 9.30am this morning near the railway bridge.
The London Ambulance Service attended, but there are no reports of injuries, the fire service told Metro.
The firefighters remained at the scene for hours until the blaze was under control at about 1pm.
Adelaide Road was closed between Winchester Road and Haverstock Hill and people were urged to avoid the area before the incident was cleared.
The cause of the fire is not yet known and it is being investigated.
The blaze is thought to be in a building with a shop and a yoga studio, according to a resident.
William Selas, 40, who lives on Adelaide Road, said he could see a lot of fire and smoke from his bedroom window.
He said: ‘Oh my God, I saw so many firefighters come around. Hopefully it’s going to be all right and we won’t have to leave the house or run away.’
Staff at the nearby Pembroke Castle pub, which is on the other side of the bridge and unaffected by the incident, told Metro they can see the smoke and fire engines outside.
While the fire has been put out, the knock-on effect on passengers travelling through Euston will continue into the afternoon.
National Rail has said there will be major disruption until 4pm at London Euston, with Avanti West Coast, London Northwestern Railway, Overground and Southern trains.
Some Avanti West Coast trains were reportedly held at stations up to Warrington near Greater Manchester.
Overground lines through the area are also affected, with TfL warning of severe delays on the Lioness line, while Mildmay is suspended due to the fire.
It added: ‘As a result, trains running between Clapham Junction / London Euston and Watford Junction, between Richmond / Clapham Junction and Stratford (London) and also between Gospel Oak and Barking Riverside may be cancelled, severely delayed by up to 60 minutes or revised.’
Affected passengers are able to use their tickets on certain alternative routes.
Bus numbers 31 and 603 are on detour while the roads are blocked.
