A woman has been charged for assaulting a security guard at a hotel housing migrants, the Metropolitan Police said.
A man in his early 20s, understood to have been staying at the Britannia Hotel in Canary Wharf, allegedly entered the woman’s flat and has since been arrested on suspicion of common assault, it added.
Footage began circulating on Wednesday of a man being told by members of the public to ‘go back to the hotel’.
The video shows a man walking down the street while the person behind the camera berates and follows him.
He was later detained by members of the public, according the Met.
In an update issued on Friday, police said Channay Augustus, 22, an occupant of the flat that was entered, was charged with a number of offences.
Her alleged offences include possession of an offensive weapon, affray, assault on an emergency worker, common assault and possession of cannabis.
The common assault charges relate to an altercation at the Britannia Hotel in Marsh Wall, Canary Wharf in London, on Wednesday evening.
The Met confirmed the victim of the alleged assault was a security guard at the hotel and not the man who allegedly tried to enter her flat.
The hotel has been the focus of several protests in recent weeks after police officers were forced to form a barrier separating protesters outside the Britannia Hotel.
A large group of balaclava-clad young men holding smoke bombs attempted to storm the hotel earlier this month.
Officers arrested the migrant in the Hackney area on suspicion of common assault on Friday morning where he remains in police custody.
‘We can confirm that this is the man who allegedly entered the flat,’ the Met said.
Augustus, of Tower Hamlets, will appear at Thames Magistrates’ Court on Friday.
